VHV Visits Joe Willy’s Seafood House

After seeing Joe Willy’s  restaurant on an episode of Restaurant Impossible with Robert Irvine, we decided to pay it a visit. Not having been to the restaurant before, we cannot do a before and after comparison.

Being a seafood house, I guess one would expect the restaurant to smell like fish, and it did. We went on a hot humid day and as a habit, I’ve learned to carry a jacket because most restaurants have the air conditioner on high. That wasn’t the case at Joe Willy’s. It wasn’t hot, just a little stuffy.

Prompt and Friendly ServiceJoe Willy

We found the service to be prompt and friendly. The waitress did a wonderful job in reciting and explaining the specials of the day. I chose the seafood trio, which consisted of shrimp, lobster tail and tilapia. My husband chose the lobster tails stuffed with crabmeat.

We both had salads, he had a Caesar and I ordered a tossed. I selected the house dressing. I was a little disappointed because the dressing didn’t look or taste like it was made with olive oil. If it was olive oil, it was an extremely light-colored olive oil.

The Meal

My husband had the shrimp cocktail. He had to clean a few of the shrimp because they weren’t properly cleaned. My lobster bisque was edible.

The lobster tails came with coleslaw (his choice) and the trio came with broccoli (my choice). We found the food to be edible, but not necessarily fresh. There was no salt on the tilapia, which made it rather tasteless. The shrimp, lobster and broccoli were edible as were the stuffed lobster tails.

Overall Opinion

The food was edible, but not very flavorful. There are plenty of restaurants in the Hudson Valley to visit and some we visit time and time again. Joe Willy’s is a one-time visit for us. The service was prompt and friendly. We just wished the food were as good as the service.
