Title: ROSENDALE THEATRE ANNOUNCES: Sunday Silents for Jan
Location: RosendaleTheatre
Description: (ROSENDALE, NEW YORK) – Rosendale Theater is proud to announce on Sunday, January 6th at 2:00 PM we will have Carl Theodore Dreyer’s Passion of Joan of Arc as part of the “Sunday Silents” series. Live accompaniment will be by Marta Waterman.

Widely considered a landmark in the History of Film, Passion of Joan of Arc (1928) is a triumph of direction and production which is equaled, if not surpassed by the performance of Renee Jeanne Falconetti as Joan. Her depiction of Joan is one of the greatest ever captured on film. This would be her second and last performance on film.

With a budget of seven million francs, Dreyer proceeded to recreate medieval France down to the last detail and based the script on the record of the trial. Realism was heightened by Dreyer’s use of extreme close-ups and Rudolph Mate’s high-contrast cinematography which showed all facial imperfections on the actors.

Entering its third year as a not-for-profit, volunteer run, center for film and all the performing arts and education, the historic Rosendale Theater, run by the Rosendale Theater Collective (RTC), is dedicated to enhancing the cultural life and economic vitality of Rosendale and Ulster County.
